It was good wasn’t it?
Max Verstappen finally caught some luck in Italy and after today’s win now sits only one point behind Hamilton in the Driver’s Championship. But despite his win, everybody is still talking about Hamilton. After what looked like a race ending trip into the gravel Hamilton was able to claw his way back up to second place after losing the lead on lap one. It was a challenging race for the Brit as he struggled with balance after damaging his front wing in the first few corners with Max.
It was a successful day for most of the Brits on the track today as Lando Norris claimed his second podium finish in F1 after a fantastic drive in a competitive looking McLaren. George Russell was not basking the glory though, the third British driver on the grid had a terrible Sunday after a collision with Valtteri Bottas. It is such a controversial incident that we are going to devote an entire blog post to it.
It was a good day for Ferrari. Lets say that again, it was a good day for Ferrari! The prancing horses finished a respectable 4th and 5th. That was despite many (admitted by himself) mistakes by Carlos Sainz. Charles Leclerc was right at the front of the action for the majority of the race and produced a great drive. This result may come to serve Ferrari well in the future as these points will all help their fight against McLaren for third place in the Championship.
Despite a win for Red Bull their other driver Sergio Perez had a less than impressive race. He finished just outside of the points in 11th after falling off the track many times. It seems that second driver curse might not be gone after all. Another driver who had an unfortunate day at the office was Nicholas Latifi. He was taken out of the race after contact with Nikita Mazepin after what was looking like a more promising performance for Williams after qualifying yesterday.
Other news to take away from the weekend include points for Kimi, both Haas drivers completing a whole race (despite some spins) and another DNF for Sebastien Vettel. It was a lively and entertaining race which will likely have repercussions over the next few weeks until Portimao.
